Why collectors call it Birthday Pikachu
The printed name area leaves a blank for the owner or gift recipient. English-language collectors adopted the Birthday Pikachu nickname; searching both “_____’s Pikachu” and the Japanese “＿＿＿のピカチュウ” produces a more complete record.
The major versions retain Kagemaru Himeno’s artwork, creating a coherent printing lineage rather than unrelated cards with the same gimmick.

1998 to 2021: separate the eras by distribution
The earliest Japanese version appeared with a second-anniversary All Card Calendar in 1998. Australia and North America later received their own promotional printings. In 2021, the artwork returned through English Celebrations and Japan’s separate 25th Anniversary Promo Card Pack.

Why S8a-P 007/025 attracts so many questions
The Japanese 25th Anniversary Promo Card Pack was not a standard fixed booster. Birthday Pikachu was one of 25 possible promos. No official total print run has been published, so a pack-level selection should not be confused with total population.
Public PSA 10 asks in August 2026 were widely dispersed. A group clustered around roughly ¥99,000–125,000, with much higher unsold asks also visible. Completed sales, asking prices, grade and shipping need separate treatment.

The blank name box is the first condition check
The original design invited owners to write a name, while most present-day condition collectors prefer an untouched box. Pencil marks, erasure, indentations, surface scratches and promo-pack edge wear all deserve separate inspection.
A named copy can still hold personal or historical meaning. It simply belongs in a different market comparison from an untouched example.
