Two art collaborations are frequently grouped under “Pokémon museum cards.” The 2023 Pokémon × Van Gogh Museum project produced the English Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat. Five years earlier, the Japanese “Munch: A Retrospective” campaign produced five SM-P promos styled after The Scream.
The fast identifier is language and numbering: Grey Felt Hat is English SVP EN 085; the Munch cards are Japanese 286–290/SM-P.

All five Munch “The Scream” promos
The cards accompanied the Munch retrospective held in Tokyo from October 2018 to January 2019. Each uses the bridge, rolling sky and hands-to-face expression associated with The Scream. Arranging them from 286 to 290 makes it easier to compare the visual links and five distinct illustrators.
Psyduck / コダック | 286/SM-P
Tomokazu Komiya’s agitated linework fits Psyduck’s familiar headache and confusion. It begins the five-card numbered run.
Eevee / イーブイ | 287/SM-P
Atsuko Nishida keeps Eevee’s rounded silhouette while the twisted sky and bridge create the tension. Use 287/SM-P to separate it from other Eevee promos.
Pikachu / ピカチュウ | 288/SM-P
You Iribi’s “Scream Pikachu” became the best-known image of the release. It was a museum-visitor promo and is not the same card as the 2023 Grey Felt Hat Pikachu.
Mimikyu / ミミッキュ | 289/SM-P
Hasuno places Mimikyu’s cloth silhouette inside the darkest composition. Its original release was sealed with a designated mini card file rather than pulled from a booster.
Rowlet / モクロー | 290/SM-P
Hideki Ishikawa closes the numbered sequence. Rowlet’s circular form contrasts with the long bridge, making the final card easy to recognise in a full lineup.

Why supply differs: three original distribution routes
“Munch promo” describes the theme, not a single giveaway. The five cards were handled through three routes, a distinction that resale descriptions often compress.

Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat | SVP EN 085
Pokémon and Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum collaborated in 2023 around the 170th anniversary of Van Gogh’s birth and the museum’s 50th anniversary. Naoyo Kimura’s illustration references the 1887 Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat. The result is an English Scarlet & Violet Black Star Promo.

Check number and language before the provenance story
High-demand art collaborations attract incorrect names, invented variants and counterfeit risk. Compare card number, typography, illustrator credit, back colour, surface response and dimensions with official high-resolution images, then inspect whitening, corners, dents, scratches and centring.
A sealed card file, event wrapper or receipt can support provenance, but none replaces inspection of the card. Keep raw cards, graded examples, completed sales and unsold asking prices in separate comparison groups.
